Thinking About a School Transfer?

We’re here to help!

Parents can request a transfer from their child’s current (home) school to another Fort Worth ISD campus, as long as space is available.

Middle and high school transfers use a lottery system, while elementary school requests are reviewed individually by each campus. Please note that transfers are not guaranteed, and Schools of Choice are not part of the open transfer process.

Middle and High Schools

The Open Transfer Application for incoming 6-12th graders remains open until July 31st. The Student Transfer Process utilizes a lottery system similar to the Fort Worth ISD Gold Seal programs.

Applications are located in Parent Portal. Read the Guide to Apply below.

Students are limited to selecting 1 campus. Schools listed on the Late Application will be dependent on availability and wait lists, on a first-come, first-served basis..

Important Information About Campuses with Limited Space

Some Fort Worth ISD schools have been designated as “limited space” campuses because they’re close to full enrollment. While families are still welcome to apply for a transfer to these campuses, please know that your child may not be placed at your first or second choice, depending on space availability.

Please note: families are responsible for providing transportation for students on a general transfer.

Elementary Schools

Students are limited to selecting 1 campus. Schools listed on the Late Application will be dependent on availability and wait lists, on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you are interested in an Elementary Transfer you will need to contact the campus directly. Elementary Transfers will be reviewed and approved by the campus administrators you are zoned for and the campus you are requesting to attend. Transfers are not guaranteed.

Schools of Choice are NOT included in open transfers.

Schools of Choice

Fort Worth ISD Gold Seal Schools of Choice do NOT accept transfers. The Gold Seal lottery application is open in the late fall, and Gold Seal wait-list applications are open in the spring and summer for the following school year.

Current Students

Quick Guide: Current Students

Current Students are students who are enrolled and attending school in the district.

Log into Parent Portal Account
On main page select child's name on the left hand side, in the drop down you will see the application for “Open Transfer Application for Middle and High School Students”
Click on the “Open Transfer Application” link to complete your Open Transfer Application for 2025-2026
Review and complete all sections of the application. Be sure to attach all requested documents.
When finished with the application click “Submit & Finish” at the bottom of the page.

Need a Parent Portal Account? Visit fwisd.org/parentportal to create and add your student to your Parent Portal.

Former Students

Quick Guide: Former Students

Former Students are students who are not currently enrolled or attending a Fort Worth ISD school but did previously attend and were assigned a Fort Worth student ID number.

Log into your Parent Portal Account
On the main page under Pending Forms you will see the option to complete the “Future School Year and Grade Level Form”. You must complete this form in order to have access to other forms in your Parent Portal.
Once completed in the Available Forms they will see the application for “Open Transfer Application for Middle and High School Students”
Click on the “Open Transfer Application for Middle and High School Students” link to complete your application
Review and complete all sections of the application.
When finished with the application click “Submit & Finish” at the bottom of the final page.

New Students

Quick Guide: New Students

New students are student who have never attended a Forth Worth ISD school.

Guardian will need to create a Parent Portal Account
Complete the “Parent Portal Registration” information fields to register your parent portal account. You’ll need a valid email address
Once you submit your Parent Registration form you will be navigated to “Add Students” page
Select “I would like to APPLY FOR ENROLLMENT for a new child.
Complete the required fields.
When finished, click “Submit & Finish” at the bottom of the final page
Once complete and submit your New Student Account, you can add additional students or select “I am FINISHED adding students. Please take me to the Portal.” to complete an application
On main page select your child's name on the left hand side, in the drop down you will see the application for “Open Transfer Application for Middle and High School Students”.

Parent Portal Account: Visit fwisd.org/parentportal to create and add your student to your Parent Portal.

Frequently Asked Transfer Questions

Can a parent pick any campus to request a transfer?

Are parents guaranteed the transfer on behalf of the student if they picked a school not “LIMITED”?

No, transfers are based on board policy (FDB Local), eligibility criteria and campus capacity by grade level. Transfers will be selected utilizing the lottery system.

Provided that a school or grade level has not reached capacity, a transfer request shall be considered and granted based on the following characteristics of each applicant, in this order of priority:

A PEG student applying from a school within the District.
A resident sibling of a resident student currently enrolled at the requested school.
A child of a resident District employee.
A resident of the District, but residing outside the attendance area of the requested school.
A child of a nonresident District employee.
A PEG student applying from a school outside the District.
A nonresident student, subject to tuition.

If a student did not get into a POC or SOC and wants to transfer, what is important to know?

Fort Worth ISD promotes the student distribution model of neighborhood and choice lottery schools. As a process, each school in the district serves a specific neighborhood within that school’s attendance zone. The requested transfer campus must have available space and your request must meet eligibility requirements outlined in board policy, FDB Local. A transfer request is not automatically granted.
